It’s New Year’s eve and the clock strikes midnight. Of course, as per tradition, our mind quickly starts listing our new year’s resolutions.
Yet still, after the first day, the second, a week, those goals listed with great confidence, turn into illusions. We bump into our habits weight, we get discouraged in front of the obstacles, time seems to sleep away, our goals look unrealistic and the action plans too complicated.
We find quite hard to realize our resolutions and we become our own worst enemies: we postpone.
And like that our life plans…
To have personal goals is noble and inspirational. Yet, it is not enough “to turn the page of our calendar”, or even tell ourselves “I will start on Monday”.
So, let’s start seeing our goals in a more pragmatic way, with a start, a middle and an end.
…or our journey plans
We, travelers know it. In fact, we chase our dreams around the World, step by step. We learned that carefulness and “to postpone” are just forms of mental preparation in order to accomplish our new resolutions.
I want to give you some tips on how to support and accomplish your new resolutions, whether about life or a journey. I will do it, telling you about the realization of my own dream journey in Myanmar.
Here’s 3 strategies:
The idea of bettering oneself should be a daily goal, not just an annual rite of passage. Therefore, it is important to seize the opportunities jumping in front of us, to face, little by little, the fear of failing or of not being able to realize a dream, that makes us procrastinate.
I have postponed again and again my trip to Myanmar for many reasons, whether political, economic, personal or work-related. It had been at the top of my list for some time, therefore saving money, getting news and preparing my mind in order to realize my dream journey, became my daily routine. One day, an Oman Air‘s offer presented itself to me, exactly the moment I needed to add some vitality and passion to my life. I had to go, it was the right moment.
In order to keep alive our new resolutions, we need a lot of willpower, mental energy, openness to change and, above all, we need to acknowledge the resources we have, to measure them and evaluate what we can really do.
The desire to realize a travel, demands the same level of attention. A complex journey will require a lot of information seeking; an adventurous journey will turn every change into an opportunity; an expensive journey will need you to save every cent.
Therefore, I worked hard to leave for my trip in Myanmar, as well as to choose the stops on my itinerary or to find the experiences I did not want to give up and the ones I would not be able to do.
One of the mental obstacles we naively devise, is to anticipate immediately the final result, making our resolution an insuperable mountain. Therefore, in order to keep our motivation steady, we can turn our great resolution into many little goals that gratify us and bring us closer to the final destination.
The same applies to a journey: every stop is a little goal to achieve.
Happy fulfillment!
